Fall 2013 Allure Beauty Box Review

Fun fact: The first box I ever purchased was the 2008 Summer Allure Beauty Box.  It's all been downhill from there.

Allure has seasonal one-time-purchase beauty boxes full all sorts of different beauty products - everything from nail polish to hair serum.  The Fall box went on sale July 23 and showed up at my house last Thursday.

The box itself was pretty heavy - 10 lbs or so - and I was impressed with how it was packed.  The different compartments made everything safe, and for some reason it was extra fun to unpack.

Also, Stella was OBSESSED with this box. (You can see her nose in both of the above shots.)  She insisted on helping me with the unboxing.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash: ($5.49) I'm kind of excited about this.  Sure, it's available at every drugstore ever, but for some reason, I've never picked one up.  Plus, my skin has the WORST stress breakout right now.

Redken Satinwear 02 Prepping Blow-Dry Lotion: ($18)  I don't blow-dry my hair that often, but my hair always looks better when I do so it is something I want to start doing.  This stuff has fantastic reviews, too.

Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil: ($10) So apparently you can use this six different ways: before shampooing for moisturizing, before blow-drying for protecting, after blow-drying for smoothing, on dry hair for adding shine, mixed with other treatments for added softness, or overnight for reconditioning.  Again, this has amazing reviews and I'm stoked to try it.

RoC Multi Correxion Nourish Stress Repair Eye Cream: (~$20)  Based on the ten minutes of searching I just did, this product is discontinued.  It's supposed to fight the accelerated signs of aging caused by stress.  As a person who worries over silly little things, that sounds pretty awesome.

RoC Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream: ($1.19)  This is the only sample in the entire box.  I don't know much about Retinol but apparently even women who previously had been unable to use retinol creams used this fine.

Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer: ($8.99)  I have all kinds of issues finding the right moisturizer.  Either they don't hydrate enough or they make me look like I rubbed my face on a slice of pizza.  Hopefully this lightweight moisturizer won't fall into either of those categories.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure: ($6.59)  This shade is Jungle Gem and I love, love, love it.  It makes me wish Fall would hurry up already.

Sation Nail Lacquer: ($5) First of all.  The name.  Wine-y Happy People.  Errr...no.  The color is a pretty standard dark purple.  They also included the promo code ALLURE08 for 20% off your order.

Burt's Bees Revitalizing Lip Balm: ($3.30)  I gasped a little when I pulled this out of the box.  J, seeing what it was, replied with "Oh, no."  You see, I have an obsession with Burt's Bees.  I thought I had tried every version of their lip balm.  How did I miss this one?!  It's blueberry and dark chocolate, but it doesn't smell like the normal weird fake chocolate smell most lip balms have.  I'm not sure how Revitalizing differs from some of the others other than scent, but it smells yummy and feels nice - it doesn't have the tingle of the regular Burt's Bees.

Skintimate Skin Therapy Sensitive Skin: ($3.59)  It's got aloe and vitamin E and is good for sensitive skin, so I have a feeling J might wind up using most of this shave cream.

Schick Hydro Silk: ($7)  This is the third or fourth one of these I've gotten from various sources.  It gives a decent shave, but something about the head makes it difficult for me to maneuver it around my knees.  I'll toss this one into the guest bathroom with all of our just-in-case stuff.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects: ($9.99)  Oh, hey there, blurry picture.  Nail polish strips always get mixed reviews, but Sally Hansen ones are my favorite.  I use a regular base coat and top coat with them and they last a pretty good length of time.

Sally Hansen Ouch-Relief Wax Strip Kit: ($8.99)  I've never had good luck with strips in the past, but hopefully these will be different. "Pain-free wax" seems to be a bit of an oxymoron though, doesn't it?

Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser + Balm: ($6.40)  This won a 2012 Allure Best of Beauty Award.  It removes rough, dry cuticles and moisturizes healthy ones.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs: ($12.99)  This is basically makeup for your legs.  I'm okay with my vampire skin, so I don't think I'll be using this.  Besides, I'd probably need the Light color instead of this Medium.

KMS California HairStay Anti-Humidity Seal: ($17.99)  It protects your hair from humidity and frizz for 24 hours.  Since it's hella humid all the time here, I'll totally get some use out of this.

Goldwell StyleSign Magic Finish Hairspray: ($17.99)  Apparently this makes your hair super shiny.  Most hairsprays I've used just made my hair sticky and dull.  Or they were glittery.

Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask: ($32)  This hair mask claims to undo and prevent damage up to 96%.  It contains no parabens or sulfates and smells lovely.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask: ($6.99)  I've used this in the past and absolutely loved it.  It works really well on dry or damaged hair, especially for the price.

GK Hair Taming Serum: ($25) You smooth this through your damp or dry hair and it combats frizz and adds shine. I've never actually used a hair serum that I can remember.  Maybe I'm missing out?

Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion: ($11.99)  I already handed this off to J.  It's for dry, sensitive skin and it moisturizes for 24 hours.

Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer Night: ($20.99)  This moisturizer claims to visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots and discoloration in one week.

Pixi Eye Bright Liner: ($17) I am SO excited about this.  I've been wanting to buy a new eye pencil, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.  Nude liner in your waterline makes your eyes seem larger, brighter, and more awake.  All things that I need.

La Loche-Posay Redermic [R] Eyes: (~$40?) This eye cream doesn't appear to be available in the US currently.  According to the itty-bitty print on the box, it combats signs of aging and fatigue around the eyes, such as deep wrinkles and dark circles

The total cost of this box was just under $55 with shipping.  The total value of what I got in it comes out over $300, which is insane.  What I really like about the Allure Beauty Boxes is the mix of drugstore brands with luxury brands.  There are several products that I can't wait to try, and anything I know I'll never use I can probably trade with someone or gift to a friend.
