March Fandom of the Month Club Review - Doctor Who

The Price: $15.99/month
The Goods:  Jewelry themed around a specific fandom every month.

Doctor Who Bracelet:  The bracelet is stamped with "We're all stories in the end."  I absolutely adore this.  It's simple but has meaning even if you're not a Whovian.

Dalek Ring: This is my least favorite piece of the three, but I still quite like it.  The back of it is adjustable - fortunately it actually fits me when it's at it's tightest.  I just wish it were silver.

Tardis Necklace: I wore this a couple days ago and got several compliments on it.  It's a pretty substantial piece; the Tardis is about an inch tall but has quite a bit of weight to it.

FotMC is similar to Loot Crate in that the months will be very hit or miss based on whether or not you like the specific fandom.  Fortunately, she posts spoiler hints on Instagram so you can unsub if you're not into the next month's.

March Loot Crate Review - Covert

The Box: Loot Crate
The Price: $13.37 plus shipping
The Goods: 6-8 items perfect for a geek or gamer with a total value of $40+.

March's theme was Covert.  The box evidently is some sort of minigame - J completed it, but I'm not sure what it entailed.

Blink Time Watch: ($8) This watch is solid black until you press a button on the face to display the time.  I'm not a fan of silicone watches, but J seemed to like it.

Loot Crate Paracord Bracelet: These bracelets are cool but I honestly hope J never unravels it.  I know that he'll want me to reassemble it if he does.

Spy Mad Libs: ($1.99)

Replica Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Lanyard: Neither J nor I have watched Agents of SHIELD but I've heard nothing but good things about the show.

Orphan Black #1: ($3.99)  I love all the comics with LC exclusive covers they send.  I'm still working through season 1 of Orphan Black, but I'm hooked.

Field Notes Notebooks: ($6.63)  All we need now is a pen with UV reactive ink or something!

Super Emo Bondy Shirt:  This is equal parts adorable, sad, and funny.

Yes, this is J's subscription but *I* really liked this theme.  I used to love pretending to be a spy as a kid and this brought back all the nostalgia feels.

Wil Wheaton Quarterly Co #WIL01 Review

The Price: $100 + $8 Shipping (Quarterly)
The Goods:  Items curated by Wil Wheaton.  The May shipment will have an 80's theme!

Radio Free Burrito Poster:  I really like the design of this!  If I ever get around to hanging my vintage Woodstock posters, this will fit right in.  Wil plans to include 3 more RFB posters in upcoming boxes, so I look forward to seeing those as well.

littleBits Base Kit: ($99)  Okay, this is designed with kids in mind but J and I are basically 27/28 going on 9 so I have no doubt that we'll find something silly to build with this.

1970's C-3PO Figure: Considering the fact that he's nearly 40 years old, this figure is in great shape.  He's already on a shelf making friends with Joffrey and Groot.

1970's Trading Cards: I love these.  I'm not 100% sure what I'll do with them, but they're really cool.

It's hard to put a value on a box that consisted of mostly vintage items.  I think the curation was great, but I'm seriously debating whether or not I want to continue my subscription.  This box was advertised as "Shipping in February."  I wasn't even charged for it until the very last day of February - so obviously it was several days later before it actually shipped.  Generally this wouldn't bother me, but Quarterly has recently stopped accepting returns AND has started charging shipping.  Also, Quarterly never sent out any sort of update as to why the shipments were being delayed or when we could expect them.  For a $100 box - not including shipping - to not have reliable shipping times is pretty unacceptable to me.  That said...I adore Wil and the 80's are amazing so...I'm torn.

February Loot Crate Review - Play

The Box: Loot Crate
The Price: $13.37 plus shipping
The Goods: 6-8 items perfect for a geek or gamer with a total value of $40+.

February's theme was "Play" and the box unfolds into a game!

Mini Munny: J has actually purchased similar things before, so this was a hit.  I like the fact that the markers it comes with can wipe off so you can redo your design over and over.

Superfight Loot Crate Deck: ($15)  From what I understand, Superfight is sort of like a mix of Cards Against Humanity and a "Pirates vs Ninjas" type argument.

Hexbug Scarab - Red: ($9.99)  I don't entirely understand the appeal of Hexbugs but J's inner child seems to like it so...who am I to judge.

Blueprint Waka Waka Poster: This is super cool and will definitely be framed for J's Geek Cave.

Ready Player One: ($8.64)  I've mentioned it a few times before, but this is one of my absolute favorite books.  (Plus, Ernest Cline is a really cool guy.)  We obviously already have a copy, but I'm sure I can find someone to gift this to.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Dice:  Basically, RPS without any strategy or mind games.  I dig it.

Because of the exclusive items it's hard to put a value on the box overall, but it's above $35.  Even though we already have RPO, J and I both liked this box for the theme.  I do wish they'd include tabletop game type-items in more boxes, though!

Jinx Mysterious Bag of Mystery Women's: Giganto Edition Review (Restocked Edition!)

The Box: Jinx's Giganto Mysterious Bag of Mystery  (See my other Jinx reviews here!)
The Cost: $30 (one time purchase)
The Goods: Approximately $90 worth of items.  Could be anything from hoodies to toys to stickers - all from the Jinx store!

League of Legends Corporate Mundo Tee: ($21.99)  I don't play LoL, so I'll probably sell or trade this.  I have no idea who this guy is, but I really like his color scheme.

Portal 2 Aperture Labs Beanie: ($14.99)  Sadly, we got this in our last men's bag too.  J doesn't wear beanies, so this will get sold/traded as well.

More Dots! Tee: ($21.99)  Man this sucker seems to run small.  I'll totally wear it though, because I can't look at it without laughing.  (If you don't get the reference, watch this video.  Though...you probably still won't get it if you've never played WoW.)

Battlefield 4 Lightning Skull Tee: ($21.99)  I haven't played BF4 but it's a rad tee so I'll totally wear it anyway.

Portal 2 Briefs Pack: ($19.99)  YAAAS.  Judge all you want, but I'm super excited about these.  They're adorable!  I think the aperture logo ones are my favorite.

Total Value: $100.95

I think this might be my favorite of all the women's bags I've gotten.  (It would've been a bigger hit if I hadn't *just* gotten the beanie, though.)  I'm actually kind of debating ordering another women's bag in one size up to see if that changes the variety any.

Jinx Mysterious Bag of Mystery Men's: Giganto Edition Review (Restocked Edition!)

The Box: Jinx's Giganto Mysterious Bag of Mystery  (See my other Jinx reviews here!)
The Cost: $30 (one time purchase) (Not currently available)
The Goods: Approximately $90 worth of items.  Could be anything from hoodies to toys to stickers - all from the Jinx store!

League of Legends Signed Tee: ($21.99)  Neither I nor J play LoL, so this will be sold/traded/gifted.

Gamer T-Shirt: ($21.99)  This isn't an "AW MAN HOW COOL!" kind of shirt, but it's not awful.  J will wear it, and that's what counts...right?

Walking Dead Tee: ($21.99)  As soon as I told J he could probably have everything in this mystery bag, I pulled this out and took back what I said.  I'm absolutely keeping this for myself (though J will probably borrow it.)

Portal 2 Aperture Labs Beanie: ($14.99)  I've been on a beanie kick lately

Minecraft Mobs Caves Sticker Packs: ($2.99)  J and I have been playing a lot of Minecraft lately, so I love these.  Love.

Diablo III Face Sticker Pack: ($3.99)  I played Diablo III a ton when it first came out and then quit and have never gone back.  However, I really l like the face sticker.

Fragging Permit Sticker: ($1.50)  This made me laugh.  It also made me want to play CoD.  Brb, fraggin' noobs.

Total Value: $89.44

Okay, so...yes, I got a value equal to what came in my previous Jinx bags.  However, I'm a little disappointed and here's why:  you can order a mystery bag of 3 shirts for $19.99.  If you take that into consideration, it sort of lowers the awesome on it.  Part of the reason I've loved these Giganto bags is because there's a chance to get ANYTHING in the store, and this sticker/shirt combo just seems a little disappointing.  (Hi, my name is Katrina and I'm spoiled when it comes to mystery bags. :) )

January Loot Crate Review - Rewind

The Box: Loot Crate
The Price: $13.37 plus shipping
The Goods: 6-8 items perfect for a geek or gamer with a total value of $40+.

 January's theme was "Rewind."

Black Tie Geek Skinny Tie: Loot Crate actually sent out a bow tie in this same print in 2013.  I'm not entirely sure when/if J will wear this, so I might have to fashion it into a headband.

Comic Note Book: ($5.95)  J has actually been outlining his own comic story, so this is perfect.  It's easily the item he was most excited about.

Star Wars Issue 1: ($4.99)  This is another LootCrate exclusive cover.  Personally, I like the standard cover better since it has a more vintage-y feel to it.

8 Bit Sunglasses: (Similar, $6.98)  This is the third pair of 8 bit sunglasses we've gotten from subscription boxes.  Granted, we have a terrible track record for keeping up with sunglasses so I guess I shouldn't complain.

So Analog 10-Doh! Figure - Alien Attack: (~$10)  This is super cute!  I think I might actually try to swap for the other variations of these.

Flophouse Voltron Tee: ($28)  J is pretty neutral on this shirt, so I might actually steal it because I like the cut of it.

Total Value: Over $56

I think I was a bit more excited about this crate than J.  When Loot Crate announced that the theme would be Rewind I thought surely they'd be sending a Back to the Future item - I'm a little disappointed that they didn't.
