(Un)fashionably (Un)fit

One of these days, I'm going to stop being lazy and make a little graphic thing for these posts.

Speaking of lazy...

Yeah.  4121 steps a day.  I'm not even going to make an excuse.

HOWEVER.  I did assemble an Ikea dresser, which my fitbit obviously didn't track.  I'm totally counting that as a workout.  My arms were sore the next day.  (Hush, it was hard work.)

The good news is that it's slowly getting cooler.  By cooler, I mean the highs are in the 90's instead of the 100's.  Still.  Cooler.

(Un)fashionably (Un)fit

I'm a professional at making excuses.  I've all but abandoned running, and I "justified" it to myself with these reasons:

  • J's been working late, and running alone sucks.
  • I'm having a good hair day.  Who wants to ruin a good hair day with a sweaty ponytail? Exactly.
  • We have friends over.
  • It's too damn hot.  Seriously.
  • If it's not hot, it's rainy.
Actually, I was totally motivated to pick up my Couch to 5k training again, but it's supposed to rain every night until Saturday.

The C25k app that I use is the Zombies, Run! one.  If you're looking for a running app, I 100% recommend Zombies, Run! (They have apps that allow you to free run, not just the C25k one.)

Here's the trailer for the regular Zombies, Run! game.

Basically, you're running to a story.  In the C25k app, you're training to become a "runner" who picks up supplies and such.  In the regular games, you're sent on missions to get supplies, rescue people, etc.  In both apps, you listen to your own music and they come in periodically with the story dialogue.

Zombies, Run! is literally THE thing that's made me not *hate* running.  And no, this isn't sponsored or anything.  I'm just obsessed with it.

So, how'd I do last week?

That's an average of 3,205 steps a day.  Which is way down from last week and makes me rather embarrassed.

(Un)fashionably (Un)fit

To track all of my fitness activity, I use a Fitbit One.

If you've never heard of a Fitbit, it basically tracks your steps, stairs climbed, distance traveled, time active, and calories burned.  It will also track your sleep quality and the website has other features like a log for food, water intake, etc.  Oh, and it will tell you motivating messages whenever you move after being still for a bit.

The default daily step goals are 10k a day.  I work from home and I'm extremely lazy.  The combination of the two mean I pretty much don't leave the couch, like, ever.  I bumped my goal down to 7k a day, which I felt like was something more attainable, but I'd still have to move my ass off the couch to reach.

Does seeing my activity motivate me to be more active?  Yes and no.  If I look at my fitbit at 6pm and see that I've walked a thousand (or less) steps, I kind of feel like there's no point to even trying.  If I've somehow hit 4k+ then I'll force myself to go on a walk or march around the house while I'm reading until I hit my 7k.  If I've hit 7k, I try to wander around until I hit 10k.  If I've hit 10k...well, that almost never happens.

So, last week (Monday-Sunday) I managed to do 38,188 steps.  That's an average of 5,455 per day.  While it's not *terrible* given my lifestyle, it's not where I'd like to be.

If anyone would like to be my Fitbit friend and help motivate me to be competitive, this is my profile.  Or you can just stalk me and judge how little I get off the couch.  That's cool too.

(Un)fashionably (Un)fit

Guys, I'm out of shape.

I also have a pet peeve related to that.  Because I'm on the small side, people look at me like I have four noses when I say that I really need to start working out.  Hey, y'all - skinny does not equal fit!  The reverse is also true - most of the women I know who could run a marathon and still have the energy (and power) to kick someone's ass afterwards are not size 2.

Anyway,  I've decided that I need to start taking care of myself again.  I'm slowly working on it, but my main problem is that I have no one to hold me accountable.

Oh, hey there, blog.  Guess what.

You're going to hold me accountable.

Every week.

Ish.

Ready...go.

(Not so) Modest Monday

I just have to take a minute to pat myself on the back.

I worked at the local Harley dealership for a big local event over the weekend.  Suffice to say, I walked my booty off.
Step counts for the past 7 days.  I'm stomping my friends.

As a result, I've rocked my fitbit.

I usually work from home and, I am embarrased to admit, average 2k-4k steps a day.  I've decided to use this as sort of a crash into workout out regularly again.

Once my feet stop hurting from all the hours I spent on them. :)
